Carolyn Hilmers Ruggeberg dedicated her life to education and helping
children succeed. She was the first individual to take the secretarial
position at Welton and Ekstrand Elementary Schools. Carolyn’s love of
education and hard work ethic set the standards very high for those who
followed her.
Carolyn was born on April 1, 1927. She graduated from DeWitt High School
and attended Mount Saint Clare College in Clinton, IA. She married
Kenneth Ruggeberg and had two sons, Mark and John. Carolyn’s interest in
education prompted her sons to pursue careers in education.
Carolyn was very active on their family farm and believed that “any job
worth doing is worth doing well”. She was an excellent secretary and
cared very deeply for the students who attended Welton and Ekstrand
Elementary Schools. Following Carolyn’s retirement, she began
volunteering as a 4-H leader, at the Frances Banta Waggoner Library and
at the United Church of Christ.
The Carolyn J. Ruggeberg Memorial Fund ensures educational opportunities
for students in the Central Community School District.
