Mack, Mr & Mrs James E. |
|
| Sharing in a community and providing service in that community, is what James and Joann Mack are all about. Their lifelong dedication to community has benefited those in the Quad-Cities area, and in many ways has brought them together with the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend. Jim Mack was born in Rock Island, Ill. He graduated from Alleman Catholic High School in 1975, the University of Illinois Champaign, with a B.S.E.E. in 1980 and the University of Iowa with a M.B.A. in 1986. He has been an electrical engineer for 20 years for MidAmerican Energy. Jim Mack has a soft spot for youth, mainly because of his own children, Amy, Betsy, and Charlie. Through his children, Jim has become involved in many youth filled activities and has a real appreciation for children. He is a member of the Moline Optimist Club, which emphasizes being a friend to the youth of the community. He has been a coach of youth sports since his college days, and has coached football, baseball and basketball for the YMCA. Joni Mack was raised in Champaign, Illinois. Growing up in a university town, the pressure was always present for Joni to attend college. Joni graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Speech and Hearing Science in 1980 and a M.S. in Speech Pathology in 1981. Education wasn’t the only thing Joni gained from attending college; college was where she met and fell in love with Jim Mack. Joni continued her commitment to education by working in the Orion School District, and summers at Augustana College after she and Jim were married. When Jim was transferred to Iowa City through Mid American Energy, Joni worked at the University as a Speech Department Clinical Supervisor. Joni knows the importance of education, especially for those with a mental or physical handicap. She is currently working with at-risk, pre-school children, who have a difficulty with speech. She works as a Clinical Supervisor for the Center of Communicative Disorders at Augustana College. Here, she leaves a legacy in education by training students to assist others with speech disorders. She, like Jim, is also very involved with her children and their activities. She is a prominent member of the Seton Catholic School Mothers Club, which is an organization that provides activities and raises money for the school. The Mack's have found a way to promote Catholic education, and all levels of schooling in the Quad Cities area by establishing a fund with the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend. They have personally benefited from their own education and are committed to helping not only their own children, but to helping all children who are served through the programs and services they support. |
