Michael J. Condon, Sr. spent his entire life giving back to the Davenport area. For more than 40 years he enhanced the community by being one of the area’s top home builders. His passion for the construction industry was first discovered in 1960 while Mike was working at White Lumber Yard. In 1971, he joined Mel Foster Co. as one of its builders. Mike spent his last 32 years as a realtor/broker and home builder. He founded Mike Condon Construction, Inc. and built numerous single-family homes and condominiums. He was the second Iowan to build condominiums and built one of the largest condo communities in the state.
Mike was a dedicated volunteer in the community and in his church. He was involved with many projects that supported local charities and sporting events. Mike was a charter member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. He was an active volunteer in the building of the church and rectory, dedicating his time and construction skills to the project. Mike was a longtime member of the Davenport Moose, enjoyed bowling, and was an avid golfer. He was a member of several local, state and national realty and home building associations, including the Davenport Board of Realtors and the Quad-City Home Builders Association.
The Mike Condon Memorial Scholarship is in place to provide financial assistance to area students that have shown an interest in the field of construction. Students applying for the scholarship need to meet several criteria including: a grade point average of 2.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale, and the student must be enrolled full-time in a construction related course of study. Preference will be given to those students that have completed some construction related curriculum or who have participated in a school sponsored construction activity. Students may reapply for this scholarship until it has been awarded to them four times - once per year.
