Although everyone knows that youth are the leaders of tomorrow, too few people recognize that they can be, the leaders of today! Teens for Tomorrow is an exciting community-building opportunity that allows young people to lead and support change through philanthropy. At the heart of this program are activities for youth, to learn about and actively practice philanthropy. Teens identify community needs and are provided the resources to act on them – to become a part of the solution.
The Teens for Tomorrow Board is comprised of 15-20 teenagers from area high schools ( Rock Island and Scott County ) and youth-serving organizations throughout the Quad Cities, representing the broad diversity of the area.
The Board will meet for the school year to implement a program and grant application process, which includes:
-
Assessing community needs
- On-site visits to local non-profits
- Sessions on leadership, values, decision-making, philanthropy, and volunteering
- Awarding grants annually to area non-profits ($5,000 from the Community Foundation – Community Impact Fund)
Women Building Community supports the program and an Action Team has volunteered to be a part of this project.
The Women Building Community Action Team for Teens for Tomorrow will be an integral part of making this initiative a success. Another key element in the program will be the Student Director. The Student Director will be responsible for effectively managing the Teens for Tomorrow program and its Youth Board. |
