<<  Back to Fund Listing Sudbrook, Helen (est. 1998) Helen Sudbrook and her late husband, Herbert, are an example of The American Dream come true...through their generosity many others will have the opportunity to reach for that dream. Year after year, she and her husband accumulated their fortune by carefully spending less than they earned, investing their savings in stock and watching their investment grow “an inch at a time.” As exceptional evidence of their philanthropic interests, Helen funded a Charitable Remainder Trust in 1994 with the Community Foundation as a beneficiary. The Community Foundation received nearly $300,000, and other charities in the community received funds, such as St. Ambrose University and Augustana College. Helen stated, “I can’t take it with me, so I might as well leave it to people who can benefit.” This unrestricted gift was given to be used to address the most urgent community needs and advance the most promising creative approaches to strengthening our community.
