Vander Veer Botanical Park
Vander Veer, a 1980s landscape park, was once known as Central Park. It is now the heart of the Vander Veer Park Historic District which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. Renamed after one of the first park commissioners, Vander Veers conservatory floral displays and outdoor gardens have been a continual tradition since the first glass palmhouse was built in 1897. Generations of families have enjoyed this jewel in the center of the city of Davenport.
The Friends of Vander Veer, organized in 1992, are dedicated to the continued renovation and development of Vander Veer Botanical Park. By combining the efforts of promotion and fundraising they are working with the city to support the following mission:
Vander Veer Botanical Park is dedicated to its historic traditions, the promotion of horticulture. The art of gardening and garden design, and the integration of the arts in a botanic park setting through displays, collections, education and outreach programs.
