Jane Folwell has provided a gift to the Foundation through a Charitable Remainder Unitrust with a value of $300,000. The gift will establish a Field of Interest Fund in the Community Foundation, called the Dorothy Jane Folwell Education and Health Care Fund. The Fund will be used to benefit educational and health care programs serving the Quad Cities region or individuals in need of educational or health care assistance.
Jane learned philanthropy from her father – a kind and generous man. He taught her that true joy comes from giving. She and her husband, Frank Folwell, also found great pleasure and satisfaction in giving. But she learned how to be a philanthropist from a lawyer. It was her attorney who introduced her to the idea of charitable trusts.
”I strongly believe in the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend and want to make a significant gift to support the effort. Because I would receive income for life from the charitable trust, I was able to make a larger gift than I otherwise could have. I am extremely pleased with the quarterly payments from the trust. I am not bothered with (and do not worry about) investing the money, and best of all, I know that I have made a difference right here in our community. And that’s the beauty of a charitable trust, I think, a person can “do well by doing good.”
