Steve Enright was born on August 7, 1950 in Erie, Ill. Three years later, Donna Hawkins was born on August 7th, in Port Byron, Ill. Steve graduated from Erie’s high school, and Donna grew up in Port Byron and graduated from Riverdale High School. She said she enjoyed attending a small school, knowing everyone there and being involved in all of the school activities. Steve and Donna were married in 1972, and made a home along the Mississippi River in Port Byron.
Both Steve and Donna greatly enjoy living in a small town, and are active in their community. Steve and Donna farmed for 20 years before starting Enright Enterprises Carwash, and Donna worked as a tax assessor before she decided to help manage the car wash she and Steve own. Donna has also been a trustee of Port Byron Township for eight years, and of the Riverdale Education Foundation for 12 years. Both have served on various Chamber of Commerce board and committees, and have been actively involved in the Port Byron Tug Fest for many years. The Enrights regularly participate in events like Race For the Cure, the Genesis Foundation Golf Challenge and the Annual Poker Run for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. They remain loving spouses to one another, as well as doting parents to their children Andrea, Dustin and Philip, which they claim has been their most important job. The couple’s hobbies include golfing, boating, hunting and doing freelance work for SK Modeling Agency. Their most recent adventures include backpacking through Europe, and participating in the “Fear Factor” reality TV show in 2005.
The Enright’s children have all grown up and also done well to keep busy. Andrea, who is now 31, owns a marketing business in Denver and is currently serving the Peace Corps with her husband in Bulgaria. Dustin, 30, owns a Super Wash car wash and is a safety specialist for TransCanada. Philip, 25, resides in Arizona and works for State Farm Insurance.
Donna said her mother was her strongest charitable influence. Her mother instilled many values in her throughout her life, and Donna has worked to instill these same values in her own three children. Donna and Stephen have always emphasized to them the importance of giving to those who are less fortunate than they. When their children were awarded travel and college scholarships, they became even more aware of the need for monetary assistance among others.
Stephen and Donna chose to manage their philanthropic goals through the Community Foundation because they wanted more options, to know what the needs of the community were, and to gain giving consistency through budgeting donations. They have managed their donations through the Community Foundation for four years now, their primary charitable interest being granting scholarships. Through the Community Foundation, they say they have discovered a broader spectrum of charitable options, and gained confidence that their contribution will help the Foundation achieve greater sustainability to pass on to its beneficiaries.
