The mission of the 312 Gillespie Avenue Historic Preservation Foundation is to maintain, preserve, and improve the historic Rock Island Arsenal Club house.
In the year 2000, the Governing Board of the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club searched for and identified alternative fundraising method to supplement the members' assessments to insure the proper preservation of the historic landmark Rock Island Arsenal Club house. In August of 2000, the Internal Revenue Service issued a determination letter signifying the 312 Gillespie Avenue Historic Preservation Foundation is a qualified 501 (c3) organization.
In the years 2001 and 2002, additional steps were taken by the Board to put the Foundation into motion. A brochure was developed and funds were solicited from the members. Included in the solicitation was a request for members to consider surrendering their $1,000 certificate to the Foundation. Members who participated in these early attempts to gain tax- deductible contributions were recognized through the placement of their names on plaques located in the clubhouse. This year, through the efforts of several members, the Foundation Board raised money through “Birdies for Charity”.
William B. Foster: Honorary Chairman
“Because of its unique location on historic Rock Island Arsenal, the golf clubhouse building shares in the important role the Arsenal has played in national and local history. The new 312 Gillespie Avenue Historic Preservation Foundation gives members and friends of the club an opportunity to make tax-favored gifts towards the long-term preservation of this national historic landmark site. It is important for us to preserve the charm and grace of the clubhouse for future generations. I urge everyone to join me in this worthwhile effort.”
Thea Leclair: Honorary Chairman
