Peter and Florence Milteadon were born on the historic Greek Island of
Mytilene. Peter was born on July 27,1908 on the beautiful olive grove
covered, ancient island established in the beginning of the 10th century BC
and Florence was born on Valentines Day in 1922, February 14th. The couple
immigrated to the United States and chose Davenport, Iowa as their home.
Peter and Florence became members of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
They later were married in the same church. Their sister, Foteka Leon,
also came to America with the couple. Foteka still lives in Davenport.
The Milteadon family owned and operated the Iowa Motel located at what is
now Kimberly Road and Brady Street in Davenport. The couple lived in a
modest home behind the motel and the entire family played a part in running
the family business. Peter was completely devoted to his business and spent
his life working hard to benefit the Milteadon family. The family’s
devotion to work extended to their faith and they decided to begin a fund to
benefit two churches in the Quad City area. It was Peter that established a
trust for the benefit of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island and
Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline.
After Peter passed away on November 19, 1984, Florence decided to sell the
motel and the house behind the family business. She later built herself a
home in Davenport, where she lived quietly for many years until she too
passed on. Florence bequeathed her entire estate to family in Greece, to
support them. After her death, her niece and other relatives from Greece
visited America and the city of Davenport, Iowa which was Peter and Florence
’s home for many years.
