Rotary of Davenport Funds Project

The Rotary Club of Davenport, formed in 1922, is an organization of business and professional leaders united to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the local community and around the world. The club contributes time and talent to many local and international projects.

The Davenport Iowa Rotary Club is an international service club and, as part of Rotary International, joins a network of 30,000 Rotary Clubs in nearly every country in the world. There is a strong influence in the club to provide service to local youth. The Davenport Rotary Club awarded one of the largest groups of scholarships in the Quad City area this year, which will help many youth attend various institutions of higher learning. Members of the Davenport Rotary Club have also made contributions to organizations including the Center for Active Seniors of Iowa Inc., which improves the quality of life for Scott County senior citizens, D.A.R.E. to keep kids off drugs, and Tornado Relief.

International projects help countries such as India and Guatemala by providing manpower, supplies, and money. Guatemala has been a country in conflict for the past four decades. Civil war rages between the government and wealthy landowners and the primarily poor indigenous Indians. Although peace accords were implemented in 1996 an end has not come to the long and extensive human rights violations. District 6000 has had a long commendable record of bringing humanitarians to help the needs of the people in Guatemala. School equipment was furnished and Davenport Rotarians traveled first hand, with Adopt-A-Village-In-Guatemala, to visit the oppressed indigenous Mayan Indians.
